La Nave is an industrial structure transformed into a spatial sequence, blending work and family areas. In this resulting typology, the transitions between domestic and workspaces are continuous. The project is the result of a creative process that focuses on the use of simple materials and enhancing local craftsmanship.
The former 227 m2 ground floor print shop has a 34 m long façade facing the street. Its space is defined by a 5x5 m grid of concrete pillars and girders. The direction of the spaces is rotated 45 degrees against the existing structure, allowing an optimization of the floorplan, bringing light deep into the apartment, and liberating the concrete skeleton.
The bedrooms are detached from the façade, whose existing yellow painted metal window frames are preserved, an alternative circulation and a climate buffer at the same time. This winter garden is the apartment’s living center, shaping the sensory experience, graduating its intimacy and nuancing its light.
↪ With major societal transitions ahead, how will we redefine the domestic spaces of the future?
